Okay, so this isn’t one of the climbs that features on La Marmotte, it’s the Passo Gavia in Italy. And yes the roads in France are a bit better then this (the photo was taken in the 70’s). But the photo does perfectly is show how amazing cycling up a mountain pass can be. Forget paying big bucks to ski down them in the Winter, this is where the big climbs come into their own. You’d need to take it pretty easy coming down the other side though…
